Catherine was born in the late Middle Ages into a large family in Northern Italy. Catherine never attended school or had a formal education, but is known for writing letters to all kinds of people, from the poorest in the land to the richest and most famous. She is even credited in convincing the pope to move the papacy back to Rome from France. In her letters, Catherine encouraged people to live in peace. The advice and wisdom contained in her writings can still be applied to our lives today.
