Just when I needed some inspiration for this week’s vocabulary activity, my amazing new friend Becky Amaral, who teaches sixth and seventh grade English at The Country School in Easton, Maryland, sent me her idea:
The kids were SO disappointed when I took down the vocab valentines they begged for another similar project. With springtime and St. Patty's Day approaching I had students write about words they feel lucky to know and why. For example:
With this springtime vocabulary activity students can compose notes about the following:
What words they feel lucky to know – either because of how they can use them or what the word does for them.
Describe a time when they were lucky using vocabulary.
Describe what they would do if they were lucky enough to find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
When students are done filling out their Feeling Lucky Vocabulary Cards, hang them somewhere in the classroom. These notes will not only remind students as to why they are lucky to learn new words, but will add some springtime whimsy to your class.
