As promised, I mused over vocabulary activities involving awards after receiving approbation as a Best Teacher Blogger from We Are Teachers two weeks ago. The result: I asked my students to create an award-either for themselves or for a friend- acknowledging an accomplishment, big or small.
The results were varied-from hilarious to poignant-but overall this vocabulary activity was a great review for students and a quick way for me to check my students’ knowledge of our current unit of study.
My directions were basic: create a positive award for yourself or a friend, then write a description underneath. Students had to use at least one vocabulary word in the award title, and at least three more in the description.
