It’s always interesting to see where people live and how they decorate their homes. Getting a glimpse of a persons living quarters can tell you a lot about their personality and passions! Our curiosity and fascination with dwellings has created a market of television shows and products all based around the home.
With the Design Your Own Dwelling Vocabulary Activity students will draw up their ideal place to live, from castle to tree house. Then they will use vocabulary words to label and describe aspects of their dwelling. Below are two examples of what you can expect to see from students when they complete the vocabulary exercise.
Middle/High School Example:
Winsome Tree House

The Repose Room – When you are feeling sleepy, repose in the guest room.

Meritorious Moat – If trying to keep wolves away, check out the moat surrounding the tree!

Spa Hiatus – At the top of the tree house, there is a retreat room just for me.

Assuaging Area –In the Spa Hiatus, there is a massage table that has the power to assuage all my frustrations.

Kitchen Epitome –The best of all kitchens is at my disposal with state-of-the-art equipment, and even a chef to cook my meals.
Elementary School Example:
Terrific Tree House

Terrific Tree House – An amazing place to imagine and play with my friends and family.

Bowling Alley –The bowling alley is an outstanding part of living room in which everyone loves to dwell.

Refillable Refrigerator – The variety of food in this enormous refrigerator never ends and is refilled immediately when something is taken out.

Rope swings – Sail from branch to branch, enjoying a swinging spree as you climb higher and higher into the branches.
