Session Description
Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is the linchpin to creating formidable mathematical learning! EQ builds students' identities as doers of mathematics and facilitates the mastery of the Standards of Mathematical Practice (SMP) 1 & 3, which are well executed when integrated with social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies. Offering students opportunities for conjecture and to build on one another's ideas, cultivates students' mathematical agency and ownership. Mindfulness is a culturally relevant teaching practice to manage stress and build resilience and self-efficacy, and a mindful classroom culture enables students to be present for instruction and address trauma (racial and others). Together, mathematics and mindfulness can change the trajectory of children’s lives and increase student achievement.
