Revising and editing are essential skills for writers at any stage in life. Students as early as third grade can begin to read and recognize errors in writing. This recognition is the editing stage in the writing process. Practicing revision and editing also helps students recognize the characteristics of good writing!
Today I'm sharing the second printable in my series of revising and editing worksheets. This printable grammar exercise is for grades 3–5 and will help students begin editing the writing of others.
With my revising and editing worksheets, students will read through a description of the Ingalls Homestead. The student who wrote the passage misspelled seven words. In order to recognize the spelling errors in the text, students must critically read and evaluate the paragraph. You may want to remind students that when spelling a homophone, think about the way it is used. Students need to remember that the words its, your, and their are possessive pronouns. The words it’s, you’re, and they’re are contractions.
After students have closely reviewed the paragraph and marked all errors, they will rewrite the passage in the space provided.
