Today I’m sharing two printable vocabulary games for high school that you will want to add to your vocabulary resources; a newly created vocabulary game and a proven dice game my students have used this year.
I firmly believe you cannot have enough vocabulary games for high school students. Having a stockpile of vocab games will come to your aid numerous times throughout the year. From helping refocus students on those Friday afternoons, to keeping them engaged at the end of the semester.
Hasbro ® Yahtzee ™ was a favorite family game growing up, but it wasn’t until recently, while brainstorming new vocabulary games for high school, that I considered playing Yahtzee™ in the classroom. My students love playing dice games to learn vocabulary words and I have a feeling this Yahtzee™-inspired vocab game will be a big hit!
To play the Vocab-Zee Dice Game you will need to break students into groups of 3–5 players. Each group of students will need 5 dice and the Vocab-Zee Dice Game rules. During each turn, students have up to three rolls to try and achieve the best possible set of dice. Once students have completed their three rolls, they look at their dice and, based on the numbers, have to perform vocabulary-based actions in order to earn points.

The You’re on a Roll Dice Game is another fun example of vocabulary games for high school students. In fact, as the days get warmer and the attention spans get shorter, you could have students play both You’re On a Roll and Vocab-Zee in groups.
To play, divide the class into groups of 3-5 (depending on how many dice you have). Give each group a list of vocabulary words and the You’re on a Roll Dice Game mandates. Have the first student in the group roll the dice and then use the first word on the list in his/her answer. The next student in the group rolls, and also uses the first word on the list in his/her answer. Once all group members have used the first word, students will move on to the second vocabulary word.
