Diane Lapp, EdD

A distinguished professor of education at San Diego State University and an English teacher and literacy coach at Health Science High and Middle College (HSHMC) in San Diego, CA, Dr. Lapp previously taught elementary and middle school grade levels. She focuses on instruction that supports learning for a diverse range of students. Her career is founded on the idea that motivation and well-planned, scaffolded instruction must be based on a continuous assessment of student needs.  LEARN MORE

Barbara Moss, PhD

A professor at San Diego State University, Dr. Moss teaches courses at the credential and master’s levels. Over the course of her career, she has worked as an English or reading teacher at every grade level, from 1 to 12. She has also been a reading coach at both the elementary and secondary levels. Maria C. Grant, EdD

A professor of secondary education at California State University, Fullerton, Dr. Grant has authored numerous publications centered on science literacy, formative assessment, and reading, including articles in Educational Leadership and Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy.  Her newest publications are A Close Look at Close Reading: Teaching Students to Analyze Complex Texts, Grades K–5 and Grades 6–12 and Turning the Page on Complex Texts: Differentiated Scaffolds for Close Reading Instruction.

Kelly Johnson, PhD

A National Board Certified teacher, Dr. Johnson is an instructional coach in the San Diego Unified School District where she works with teachers, modeling best practices across the disciplines and grades. She is also a faculty member in the school of teacher education at San Diego State University, teaching reading methods, classroom management, and liberal studies. Often referred to by her colleagues as a teacher’s teacher, Dr. Johnson has appeared in many instructional videos on teacher modeling, assessment and instruction, effective grouping, and writing instruction.
